About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled First Assistant to join our Surgical Team in London. This ongoing role offers flexibility through both part-time and full-time options, providing an excellent work-life balance while contributing to a high-performing surgical environment.

As a key member of the theatre team, you will support surgeons, anaesthetists, and theatre staff, ensuring optimal patient safety, precision, and efficiency during surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Assist surgeons directly during operations, including handling instruments, suturing, and maintaining a clear surgical field.
Prepare the operating theatre and instruments according to standard protocols.
Uphold strict aseptic techniques and infection control standards.
Aid in patient positioning and monitor vital signs throughout surgical procedures.
Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to anticipate and fulfil surgical requirements.
Participate in pre-operative briefings and post-operative debriefings to ensure effective communication.
Maintain accurate and timely records of all surgical procedures.
Adhere to health, safety, and clinical governance guidelines.
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior theatre staff and trainees when required.

Essential Requirements

Proven experience as a Surgical First Assistant or scrub practitioner with relevant clinical qualifications.
Comprehensive knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, and sterile techniques.
Excellent communication, teamwork, and resilience under pressure.
Dedication to delivering the highest standards of patient care.

Desirable

Experience across multiple surgical specialties.
Certification in advanced life support (ALS or BLS).
Experience in mentoring or training junior theatre staff.
