Graduate English Teaching Assistant: Candidate Specification
We’re looking for a Graduate English Teaching Assistant who holds:
- Has a 2:1 or above in English, English Literature, Creative Writing, or a closely related degree
- Studied at a Top 30 or Russell Group university
- Has a genuine interest in education, teaching, and child development
- Is confident, enthusiastic, and able to build rapport with students
- Has excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ideally has some experience working with young people (e.g. tutoring, mentoring, volunteering, summer camps)
- Is considering a career in teaching or educational psychology
Graduate English Teaching Assistant: Job Role
As a Graduate English Teaching Assistant you will be responsible for:
- Support students across KS3 and KS4 with reading, writing, comprehension, and exam prep
- Assist in planning and delivering engaging English lessons
- Provide 1:1 and small group intervention for students who need a little extra help
- Encourage a love of reading through book clubs, creative writing workshops, and library support
- Work closely with English teachers to track student progress and adapt support strategies
- Get involved in wider school life – from enrichment clubs to school plays and literacy festivals
