We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Social Worker to join the Children & Families Team with Orkney Islands Council. This is an exciting locum opportunity offering a minimum six-month contract, where you will work in one of the UK’s most scenic and supportive communities. Enjoy the perfect balance of on-site engagement and remote working, with three weeks on the island followed by one week working from home each month.

Your Key Responsibilities:

Deliver high-quality, child-focused social work services within statutory guidelines.

Carry out comprehensive assessments of children and families, producing detailed and effective care and intervention plans.

Work collaboratively with multi-agency teams to provide coordinated support and safeguarding.

Maintain accurate case records and prepare reports in line with legal and policy requirements.

Attend and contribute to case conferences, court proceedings, and planning meetings.

Support the continued development of services and represent Orkney Islands Council with professionalism and empathy.
Candidate Requirements:

Qualified Social Worker with registration with Social Work England (SWE) or equivalent.

Experience within a Children & Families statutory setting.

Ability to work independently while being an active member of a team.

Strong communication, assessment, and safeguarding skills.
