We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Social Worker to join the Children & Families Team with Orkney Islands Council. This is an exciting locum opportunity offering a minimum six-month contract, where you will work in one of the UK’s most scenic and supportive communities. Enjoy the perfect balance of on-site engagement and remote working, with three weeks on the island followed by one week working from home each month.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality, child-focused social work services within statutory guidelines.

  • Carry out comprehensive assessments of children and families, producing detailed and effective care and intervention plans.

  • Work collaboratively with multi-agency teams to provide coordinated support and safeguarding.

  • Maintain accurate case records and prepare reports in line with legal and policy requirements.

  • Attend and contribute to case conferences, court proceedings, and planning meetings.

  • Support the continued development of services and represent Orkney Islands Council with professionalism and empathy.


Candidate Requirements:

  • Qualified Social Worker with registration with Social Work England (SWE) or equivalent.

  • Experience within a Children & Families statutory setting.

  • Ability to work independently while being an active member of a team.

  • Strong communication, assessment, and safeguarding skills.
