Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant – Candite Specification
We are searching for a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant who has the following qualities:
- A 2:1 or above degree in Psychology, Education, Child Development, or a related field (essential)
- A strong academic background, including solid GCSE and A-Level results
- A genuine passion for working with young people with SEN, particularly those with ASD, ADHD, SEMH or speech and language needs
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and connection with pupils
- High levels of empathy, resilience, and the ability to stay calm under pressure
- Previous experience supporting children in a school, youth work or care environment (desirable, but not essential)
- We are looking for a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant who has a clear ambition to pursue a long-term career in education, therapy or psychology
Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant – Job Role
As a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with additional needs across Key Stages 2 to 4
- Help implement EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) targets and therapeutic strategies in collaboration with teaching and specialist staff
- Support pupils in managing behaviour, developing social skills, and accessing learning in creative and engaging ways
- Work closely with class teachers and therapists to plan and deliver tailored support
- Monitor and record student progress, celebrating small wins and tracking long-term development
