What you will do:

  • Promptly respond to new referrals from the public, professionals, and partner agencies.
  • Conduct Child and Family Assessments, Section 17 (children in need) assessments, and Section 47 enquiries (child protection).
  • Apply evidence-based tools such as Signs of Safety and strengths-based approaches.
  • Determine immediate risks and safety plans, escalating when required to strategy discussions or legal planning.
  • Identify children at immediate or ongoing risk of harm, taking swift protective action in collaboration with other services.
  • Initiate and participate in multi-agency strategy meetings and child protection conferences.
  • Undertake pre-proceedings work and contribute to legal planning as needed.
  • Prepare cases for transfer to longer-term teams once the initial assessment phase is concluded.
  • Maintain clear, concise, and analytical case records, chronologies, and assessments in accordance with statutory and local authority procedures.
  • Prioritise workload using professional judgement in a high-volume, time-sensitive environment.
  • Write reports for court proceedings and attend court to represent the local authority when necessary.
  • Contribute to the development of care plans and permanency plans.
