What you will do:
- Assess planning applications and provide expert highway advice to developers and planning authorities.
- Negotiate developer-led infrastructure improvements to secure public benefits.
- Ensure compliance with relevant highways and planning legislation, including design standards and Section 38/278 agreements.
- Manage diverse and complex developments, efficiently prioritising workloads to meet statutory deadlines.
- Communicate and negotiate effectively with stakeholders, including developers, consultants, and elected officials.
- Lead and mentor junior staff, enhancing team performance and fostering a collaborative work environment.

Essential Requirements:
- Relevant qualification such as a degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering, Transportation, or a related discipline.
- Proven track record in highways development management, particularly in assessing planning applications and negotiating infrastructure improvements.
- Strong understanding of highways and planning legislation, including relevant policies and design standards.
- Exceptional project and case management skills, capable of handling complex developments.
- Confident communication and negotiation skills for engaging with a range of stakeholders.

Desirable Extras:
- Membership of a relevant professional body like CIHT or ICE is a plus.
- Experience in supervising or mentoring junior staff is advantageous.
- Familiarity with highway modelling or design software such as AutoCAD or Junctions 9 is beneficial.
