This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young people and wants to use their healthcare or welfare experience within an education setting.The school is looking for someone who can provide a calm, reassuring presence for pupils throughout the school day, dealing with everything from minor injuries and illnesses to ongoing medical needs and student wellbeing.The RoleAs the School Welfare Officer / School Nurse, you will be responsible for supporting the health, safety and welfare of pupils across the school.Your responsibilities will include: Providing first aid and immediate care to pupils who become unwell or injured during the school dayAssessing students and determining the appropriate course of actionManaging the school's medical room and ensuring it remains safe, organised and appropriately stockedAdministering medication in accordance with school policies and individual healthcare plansMaintaining accurate and confidential medical and welfare recordsSupporting pupils with ongoing medical conditions, allergies and specific healthcare requirementsLiaising with parents and carers regarding illness, injury and medical concernsWorking closely with the school's safeguarding, pastoral and SEN teamsHelping to develop and maintain individual healthcare plansSupporting the school's procedures around allergies, asthma, diabetes, epilepsy and other medical needsContributing to the wider safeguarding and wellbeing culture of the schoolReferring concerns to senior staff or emergency medical services where appropriate Who Are We Looking For?The successful candidate will be compassionate, professional and confident working independently.Previous experience as a School Nurse, Welfare Officer, Healthcare Assistant, Nurse, First Aider, Medical Administrator or similar healthcare/welfare professional would be highly advantageous.You should have: A recognised First Aid qualification or relevant healthcare experienceExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsA calm and reassuring mannerStrong organisation and record-keeping skillsThe ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriatelyConfidence communicating with pupils, parents and school staffAn understanding of safeguarding and the importance of pupil wellbeingThe ability to respond calmly and appropriately in urgent situations A formal nursing qualification would be welcomed but is not essential, provided you have suitable experience and the appropriate first aid/healthcare knowledge for the position.The SchoolThis Brent secondary school has established a strong pastoral structure designed to ensure that pupils feel safe, supported and able to succeed.The Welfare Officer plays an important part in that structure.
