Job Overview

Bradford Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Social Worker to join the Duty and Assessment Team within Children’s Services. This ongoing locum opportunity offers flexible part-time or full-time working arrangements, making it ideal for maintaining a healthy work-life balance while delivering high-impact statutory social work at the front door of children’s services.

You will play a critical role in responding to new referrals, undertaking robust assessments, and making timely, evidence-based decisions to safeguard children and promote positive outcomes at the earliest stage of intervention.

What You Will Do

  • Undertake statutory social work duties in response to new referrals involving children and families.

  • Complete Child and Family Assessments within statutory timescales.

  • Carry out Section 47 enquiries where there are concerns of significant harm.

  • Make clear, evidence-based recommendations regarding outcomes and next steps.

  • Ensure the child’s voice, wishes, and lived experience remain central to all assessments.

  • Identify, assess, and manage safeguarding risks including neglect, abuse, domestic abuse, and exploitation.

  • Take timely and proportionate action to protect children at risk of harm.

  • Participate in strategy discussions, Child Protection Conferences, and Core Groups.

  • Prepare high-quality written reports, assessments, and chronologies.

  • Work collaboratively with partner agencies including police, health, education, early help, and voluntary services.

  • Support effective transitions to longer-term teams where required.

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and high-quality case records on the Council’s electronic system.

  • Ensure all practice complies with statutory guidance, local policies, and best practice standards.

  • Participate in regular supervision, reflective practice, and team meetings.

  • Maintain Social Work England registration and engage in continuous professional development.
