Job Overview

Bradford Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Social Worker to join the Duty and Assessment Team within Children’s Services. You will play a critical role in responding to new referrals, undertaking robust assessments, and making timely, evidence-based decisions to safeguard children and promote positive outcomes at the earliest stage of intervention.

What You Will Do

• Undertake statutory social work duties in response to new referrals involving children and families.

• Complete Child and Family Assessments within statutory timescales.

• Carry out Section 47 enquiries where there are concerns of significant harm.

• Make clear, evidence-based recommendations regarding outcomes and next steps.

• Ensure the child’s voice, wishes, and lived experience remain central to all assessments.

• Identify, assess, and manage safeguarding risks including neglect, abuse, domestic abuse, and exploitation.

• Take timely and proportionate action to protect children at risk of harm.

• Participate in strategy discussions, Child Protection Conferences, and Core Groups.

• Prepare high-quality written reports, assessments, and chronologies.

• Work collaboratively with partner agencies including police, health, education, early help, and voluntary services.

• Support effective transitions to longer-term teams where required.

• Maintain accurate, timely, and high-quality case records on the Council’s electronic system.

• Ensure all practice complies with statutory guidance, local policies, and best practice standards.

• Participate in regular supervision, reflective practice, and team meetings.

• Maintain Social Work England registration and engage in continuous professional development.
