Senior Mechanical Design Engineer in Whitehaven, North West

Our Client has a requirement for a Mechanical Design Engineer and a  Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, who will be required to work on a contract basis at Sellafield.

Role Purpose:

To design and deliver mechanical handling solutions, including rigs, tools, and storage racks, for the clients project. The successful candidate will work closely with the Project Engineering Manager, multi-disciplinary teams, and the Client to ensure safe, efficient, and technically compliant design delivery on a nationally important project.

Job Role Responsibilities:

• Design mechanical handling equipment and storage solutions for pond operations.
• Produce and review NFRs, feasibility studies, and Design Intent Reports (DIRs) (Senior role).
• Check, approve, and maintain mechanical design deliverables to ensure accuracy and compliance (Senior role).
• Manage design documentation, including drawings and technical specifications.
• Maintain configuration control of engineering deliverables and integration with other disciplines.
• Liaise with SL designers and other discipline teams to ensure compliance with design and construction regulations.
• Provide regular progress reports and updates to the Mechanical Responsible Engineer.
• Plan and prioritise work effectively, resolving technical challenges as they arise.
• Use AutoCAD, Navisworks, and 3D scanning software to transfer accurate site data to the design team.
• Contribute technical knowledge to Design and Constructability Reviews (Senior role).
• Apply Lessons From Experience (LFE) and plant knowledge throughout project delivery (Senior role).

Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:

• HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Strong plant knowledge and operational experience.
• Experience using CIMAGE on the SL System.
• Positive, proactive attitude with excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Hold SC clearance (British Sole National) and a Sellafield pass.
