An Outstanding and highly prestigious secondary school in Central London is seeking an outstanding Oxbridge Graduate Academic Mentor to join its thriving academic community. This role is ideally suited to graduates considering careers in teaching, academia, or educational leadership, and offers exposure to elite-level schooling and mentoring.

The Role

As an Academic Mentor, you will play a pivotal role in stretching, challenging, and inspiring some of the school’s most able students. You will work both independently and alongside experienced teaching staff to deliver high-impact academic support.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering 1:1 and small group mentoring sessions for high-attaining students across KS4 and KS5.
  • Supporting students with Oxbridge and competitive university applications, including personal statements, admissions tests, and interview preparation.
  • Designing and leading super-curricular and enrichment sessions within your subject specialism.
  • Running academic workshops, seminars, and discussion groups to deepen subject knowledge beyond the curriculum.
  • Assisting with extension work for gifted and talented pupils.
  • Supporting classroom teaching where appropriate, particularly with top sets.
  • Contributing to the school’s wider academic enrichment programme (e.g. societies, competitions, lecture series).
  • Tracking student progress and providing targeted academic guidance.

Candidate Profile

We are seeking exceptional candidates who:

  • Hold a degree from the University of Oxford or University of Cambridge (2:1 or above).
  • Possess outstanding subject knowledge and academic depth.
  • Have a strong interest in education, mentoring, or academia.
  • Demonstrate the ability to inspire, challenge, and engage high-achieving students.
  • Have excellent communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Are highly organised, proactive, and intellectually curious.
  • Have prior experience in tutoring, mentoring, or working with young people (highly desirable but not essential).
