What you will do:

  • Undertake clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing care planning for patients within the prison setting
  • Provide urgent and emergency clinical response across the establishment, managing acute presentations in line with best practice
  • Triage patient referrals and requests, prioritising care based on clinical need and risk
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including GPs, nurses, and mental health professionals to deliver integrated care
  • Manage minor illnesses and injuries, initiate treatment plans, and arrange referrals to external services where required

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Perform thorough clinical assessments to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of prisoners
  • Respond to urgent health issues and emergencies, providing rapid, effective care
  • Work closely with medical and health professionals to ensure comprehensive care delivery
  • Plan and coordinate ongoing patient care including chronic disease management and mental health concerns
  • Act as a clinical leader in minor injury management and patient referrals to external healthcare facilities

Person Specification:

  • BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science or equivalent
  • IHCD/Diploma in Paramedic Practice
  • Current HCPC registration (Paramedic)
  • Enhanced DBS clearance and Prison Vetting (essential)
  • Understanding of NHS clinical governance frameworks, safeguarding and risk management protocols
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Mental Capacity Act and Equality Act 2010
  • Minimum 2-3 years post-registration experience in emergency care, ambulance service, A&E, or urgent care
  • Experience in prisons, custody settings, community, or mental health settings is desirable
  • Insight into complex patient management including substance misuse, long-term conditions, and mental health needs is advantageous
