Graduate Teaching Assistant
Are you a graduate who wants to explore teaching before committing to teacher training?
Would you like to spend a full academic year gaining genuine classroom experience in an ambitious Brentford secondary school?
Want a Graduate Teaching Assistant role that could lead directly into teacher training from September 2027?
KPI Education is working with a successful and welcoming secondary school in Brentford, Hounslow, to recruit an ambitious Graduate Teaching Assistant for September.
This is an ideal opportunity for a graduate who wants more than a conventional Teaching Assistant position. The school is keen to identify someone with the potential to become an excellent teacher and provide them with the experience, mentoring and gradual increase in responsibility needed to take that next step.
Why Apply?
- Earn £26,000–£30,000 per annum, with a minimum of £550 per week
- Secure a full-time position for the entire 2026/27 academic year
- Gain extensive classroom experience before teacher training
- Work closely with experienced teachers and Heads of Department
- Potentially work predominantly within your degree subject
- Deliver 1:1 and small-group academic interventions
- Support students across KS3, KS4 and potentially KS5
- Gain experience supporting pupils with SEND
- Help GCSE students with revision and examination preparation
- Develop classroom management and communication skills
- Opportunity to extend your contract or progress towards teacher training in 2027
The School
Based in Brentford, the school serves a diverse community of pupils from across Hounslow and West London. It has developed a positive reputation for combining high academic expectations with strong pastoral care.
The school has a well-established leadership team, supportive Heads of Department and a collaborative staff culture. Classrooms are purposeful, behaviour expectations are clearly communicated and pupils are encouraged to take pride in their academic progress.
Graduates joining the school are treated as valuable members of the team. Rather than spending the year simply observing lessons, you will be encouraged to develop practical skills and build meaningful relationships with pupils.
The Role
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting teachers during lessons
- Working with pupils who require additional academic support
- Delivering targeted 1:1 tuition
- Leading small-group interventions
- Supporting pupils with SEND and additional learning needs
- Creating classroom resources
- Helping pupils prepare for GCSE examinations
- Monitoring progress and feeding back to teachers
- Supporting extracurricular and enrichment activities
- Gradually taking on greater classroom responsibility
As your confidence develops, there may also be opportunities to plan and deliver sections of lessons under teacher supervision, giving you invaluable preparation for future teacher training.
Who Should Apply?
The school wants to meet graduates with strong academics, excellent communication skills and genuine enthusiasm for education. Previous school experience is advantageous but not essential.
Applications are welcomed from graduates across a range of subjects, particularly English, Maths, Science, Humanities, Languages, Psychology and related disciplines.
If you are serious about exploring teaching and want a year of substantial school-based experience rather than a short-term placement, this could be the perfect opportunity.
