The School

Located in Barnet, North London, this is a large and successful secondary school with a thriving sixth form, modern learning facilities and an ambitious academic culture.

The leadership team has worked hard to create a school where pupils are expected to achieve highly while still receiving excellent pastoral support. Behaviour expectations are clear and consistent, allowing teachers and support staff to concentrate on learning and pupil development.

Departments are well resourced, classrooms are purposeful and graduates joining the school are encouraged to become genuine members of the teaching team rather than simply observing from the sidelines.

What will you be doing?

Your responsibilities will develop throughout the year and could include:

  • Supporting teachers during lessons
  • Delivering 1:1 academic interventions
  • Leading small-group tuition and revision sessions
  • Supporting pupils who are falling behind academically
  • Working with pupils with SEND and additional learning needs
  • Helping GCSE pupils prepare for examinations
  • Creating learning resources and supporting lesson preparation
  • Monitoring pupil progress and feeding back to teaching staff
  • Supporting behaviour and maintaining positive classroom routines
  • Working alongside your specialist subject department
  • Gradually taking on greater responsibility as your confidence develops
  • Observing outstanding classroom practitioners and learning different teaching techniques

The school is particularly interested in graduates with strong academic backgrounds, excellent communication skills and the confidence to build positive relationships with young people.

Previous school experience is advantageous but not essential. More important is your attitude, reliability, academic ability and genuine motivation to explore a career in teaching.

For graduates considering teacher training, this role provides the opportunity to spend an entire academic year understanding the realities of school life before taking the next step.

This is an excellent opportunity to turn your degree into a meaningful career and build a genuine pathway towards becoming a teacher.
