Graduate English Teaching Assistant
Wolverhampton | Full-Time | £20,000–£25,000
Your English degree could open the door to a career in education.
From analysing literature to developing arguments and communicating complex ideas, your degree has given you skills that could make a real difference in the classroom.
Are you an English graduate considering teaching, tutoring or another career working with young people?
KPI Education is working with a secondary school in Wolverhampton seeking a motivated Graduate English Teaching Assistant to support students across the English curriculum.
This is an opportunity to move beyond academic study, gain practical experience in a school environment and help pupils develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed.
Make an impact in the English classroom
You'll work closely with experienced English teachers, helping students engage with lessons, overcome learning barriers and develop their understanding of the subject.
Support will take place on a 1:1 basis, in small groups and within classroom lessons, giving you valuable exposure to different teaching and learning approaches.
Your responsibilities will include:
-
Supporting students individually and in small groups across English.
-
Helping pupils strengthen their reading, writing and comprehension.
-
Developing students' analytical, interpretive and critical-thinking abilities.
-
Supporting essay planning, written structure and the development of ideas.
-
Reinforcing curriculum content and making challenging topics easier to understand.
-
Encouraging engagement with English Language and Literature.
-
Assisting teachers with classroom activities and differentiated learning tasks.
-
Promoting confidence, independence and positive learning habits.
-
Providing additional literacy support where required.
-
Establishing supportive relationships with students.
-
Collaborating with teachers and the wider school team.
-
Sharing relevant observations and feedback on student progress.
Could this be the right opportunity for you?
We're interested in graduates who can bring their academic strengths into a people-focused environment and demonstrate a genuine commitment to helping young people progress.
Ideally, you'll have:
-
A degree in English, English Literature or a closely related subject, preferably at 2:1 or above.
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
-
A confident understanding of your subject.
-
The ability to explain information clearly and adapt your approach to different learners.
-
An interest in education and supporting young people.
-
Patience, enthusiasm and a constructive attitude.
-
The ability to build positive relationships and encourage student engagement.
Don't worry if you haven't worked in a school before.
Previous classroom experience isn't essential. Tutoring, mentoring, volunteering or other experience with young people would be advantageous, but your enthusiasm, communication skills and willingness to learn are equally important.
Where could this experience take you?
For graduates considering a future in education, gaining experience before committing to a particular pathway can be incredibly valuable.
This role will give you the opportunity to:
-
Develop practical experience in a secondary school.
-
Build confidence supporting and communicating with young people.
-
Strengthen your mentoring and interpersonal skills.
-
Work with students with varied abilities and learning needs.
-
Observe and learn from experienced English teachers.
-
Understand the responsibilities and routines of a secondary school.
-
Access training and professional development opportunities.
-
Establish a foundation for teacher training, tutoring or wider education careers.
Take your first step into the classroom.
If you're an English graduate ready to apply your knowledge in a meaningful setting, develop your professional skills and help young people realise their potential, we'd love to hear from you.
