Graduate Pastoral & Behaviour Mentor

Coventry | Full-Time | £20,000–£25,000

Sometimes the biggest difference starts with simply being there.

Are you a graduate who wants to help young people feel understood, build confidence and find their place within education?

Do you have the patience, resilience and communication skills to support students through challenges and encourage them to make positive choices?

KPI Education is working with a supportive secondary school in Coventry seeking a Graduate Pastoral & Behaviour Mentor to join its team.

This opportunity is ideal for graduates considering careers in teaching, pastoral support, youth work, psychology or SEND, offering practical experience of supporting young people beyond the traditional classroom environment.

Help students find their way forward

As a Graduate Pastoral & Behaviour Mentor, you'll work with students who may need additional guidance with behaviour, attendance, engagement or wider barriers to learning.

Your role will be to provide consistent encouragement, help young people recognise their strengths and support them in developing the skills needed to approach school more positively.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering 1:1 and small-group mentoring.

  • Establishing positive and professional relationships with students.

  • Supporting young people with behaviour, attendance and engagement.

  • Encouraging the development of confidence, resilience and independence.

  • Helping students recognise positive choices and take responsibility for their actions.

  • Supporting pupils experiencing additional needs or challenging circumstances.

  • Identifying barriers to learning and working with school staff to address them.

  • Collaborating with teachers and the wider pastoral team.

  • Contributing to a calm, respectful and inclusive school environment.

  • Acting as a consistent, positive role model throughout the school day.

What qualities will you bring?

We're looking for a graduate who can combine a genuine interest in young people with the emotional awareness and professionalism needed to support them effectively.

You'll ideally have:

  • A minimum 2:1 degree.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • An approachable, confident manner.

  • Patience, resilience and emotional awareness.

  • The ability to establish positive relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries.

  • The confidence to remain calm and consistent in challenging situations.

  • A proactive and enthusiastic attitude.

  • A genuine interest in developing a career in education or pastoral support.

Previous experience working with young people is desirable, but not essential.

Experience gained through mentoring, tutoring, coaching, volunteering, youth work or similar activities would be advantageous. However, we're also interested in graduates who can demonstrate the right attitude, personality and commitment to helping students progress.

Develop skills that could shape your career

This is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience within a secondary school, developing an understanding of student wellbeing, behaviour support and the factors that can influence engagement with education.

You'll have the opportunity to:

  • Build practical experience in pastoral support and student mentoring.

  • Develop your understanding of behaviour support and positive relationship-building.

  • Work with young people facing different needs and circumstances.

  • Learn how to encourage engagement and positive attitudes towards education.

  • Gain insight from experienced teachers and pastoral professionals.

  • Develop your ability to identify and respond to barriers to learning.

  • Strengthen your communication, confidence and professional skills.

The experience could provide a valuable foundation for teacher training, youth work, educational psychology, counselling, SEND or wider pastoral careers.

Your next step could make a real difference.

If you're a graduate looking for a role where you can develop professionally, support young people through challenges and gain meaningful experience in education, we'd love to hear from you.
