Key Responsibilities

  • Care Management: Lead the assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation of care plans for patients within the Prison Community Team.

  • Team Leadership: Supervise and support a multi-disciplinary staff team, ensuring regular supervision, appraisals, and personal development plans.

  • Clinical & Managerial Role: Act as a clinical role model, maintaining high standards of practice across clinical and managerial responsibilities.

  • Caseload Management: Oversee safe care planning under mental health legislation, CPA, and safeguarding frameworks.

  • Clinical Governance & Quality: Participate in clinical audits, care quality initiatives, and healthcare management meetings to improve service delivery.

  • Collaboration: Work effectively with internal and external agencies, including primary care, prison staff, addictions teams, courts, police, and probation services.

  • Record-Keeping: Ensure accurate clinical records are maintained in systems such as SystmOne and cNOMIS in compliance with Trust and NMC standards.

  • Deputising: Step in for the Mental Health Service Manager when required.

Essential Requirements

  • NMC Registration as a Mental Health Nurse (RMN).

  • Strong experience in leadership and supervisory roles.

  • Minimum 5 years working with acute/vulnerable mental health service users.

  • Experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Excellent communication, risk assessment, and clinical decision-making skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a secure prison environment.

  • Enhanced Prison Clearance (or willingness to undergo the process).
