What you will do:

• Perform, validate, and authorise haematology investigations in alignment with departmental policies and UKAS standards.
• Analyse blood samples using both automated and manual techniques, ensuring reports are accurate and timely.
• Investigate and resolve complex or unexpected results, escalating key findings appropriately.
• Engage in internal quality control, external quality assessment schemes, and participate in laboratory audits.
• Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot cutting-edge haematology analysers and laboratory equipment.

Person Specification

Qualifications:

• BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science or equivalent qualification recognised in the scientific field.
• HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
• IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Haematology required for Band 6/7 roles.
• Advanced qualifications such as a Higher Specialist Diploma or MSc are desirable for senior Band 7/9 positions.

Experience:

• Demonstrated experience within NHS or UKAS-accredited Haematology laboratories.
• Proficiency with automated haematology analysers and laboratory systems.
• Skilled in participating in quality management and accreditation activities.
• For Band 7 roles, proven experience in specialist haematology practices and staff supervision.
• For Band 9 roles, substantial expertise and leadership within pathology or haematology services is critical.
