Role purpose

As an Advanced Practitioner, you will provide high-level social work practice and professional leadership within the Family Safeguarding Team. You will support families where children are at risk of harm, ensuring interventions are timely, effective, and evidence based, while also supporting the development and quality of practice across the team.


What you will do

  • Hold and manage a small but complex caseload requiring intensive intervention.

  • Lead on complex assessments including Child in Need (CIN), Child Protection (CP), pre-proceedings, and Public Law Outline (PLO).

  • Provide expert analysis and recommendations to inform threshold decisions and care planning.

  • Quality assure assessments, plans, and reports in line with the Children Act 1989 and Working Together to Safeguard Children.

  • Champion the Family Safeguarding model and work closely with multidisciplinary partners such as adult mental health and domestic abuse services.

  • Support legal processes, including court work and preparation of high-quality reports.

  • Represent Dudley Council at multi-agency meetings and ensure effective information sharing.

  • Support the Team Manager with staff induction, practice development, and performance monitoring.

  • Maintain high-quality, timely case recording using the council’s electronic systems.

  • Build strong partnerships with health, police, education, and voluntary sector agencies to achieve positive outcomes for children and families.


Knowledge, skills and experience

Essential:

  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration.

  • Significant post-qualifying experience within Children’s Social Care.

  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, including the Children Act 1989.

  • Proven ability to manage complex safeguarding cases autonomously.

  • Experience supporting and mentoring less experienced social workers.

Desirable:

  • Experience working within a Family Safeguarding model.

  • Practice Educator qualification or willingness to work towards one.

  • Experience contributing to Ofsted inspections and advanced court work.
