Role overview
An exciting locum opportunity has become available for an Educational Psychologist to work within the Educational Psychology Service in Torbay. Role purpose
To deliver high-quality psychological services to children and young people aged 0–25, their families, and educational settings, supporting learning, wellbeing, and inclusion. The post holder will contribute to statutory assessments, early intervention, and systemic change across Torbay.
What you will do

Undertake psychological assessments using evidence-based approaches to support Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments (EHCNAs).

Produce clear, high-quality psychological advice and reports in line with statutory requirements.

Provide consultation and intervention for children and young people with SEND, social, emotional, and mental health needs, and neurodevelopmental differences.

Promote inclusive, strengths-based, and trauma-informed practice across educational settings.

Work collaboratively with schools, early years providers, families, and carers to support positive outcomes.

Deliver training and workshops to build capacity and confidence within educational settings.

Participate in multi-agency working alongside health, social care, CAMHS, SEND services, and voluntary sector partners.

Contribute to service development, policy implementation, and improvement initiatives.

Maintain accurate and timely records in line with professional and local authority standards.
Essential knowledge, skills and experience
-
Doctorate or recognised postgraduate qualification in Educational Psychology

HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist

Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice (2015) and Children and Families Act 2014

Experience working with children and young people in educational or local authority settings

Excellent assessment, consultation, and report-writing skills
Desirable experience

Experience within a local authority educational psychology service

Experience supporting EHC needs assessments and tribunal work

Knowledge of neurodevelopmental conditions and trauma-informed practice

Experience delivering training and systemic interventions
