Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced Social Worker to join the Safeguarding Team in Durham, specialising in child safeguarding. This role offers a unique opportunity to work across Child in Need (CiN), Child Protection (CP), Public Law Outline (PLO), and Court processes, providing vital support to children and families. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive Children & Families assessments and prepare high-quality reports.

  • Chair Core Groups and Child in Need meetings, ensuring agreed actions are implemented.

  • Prepare and maintain detailed reports and care plans for Children in Care.

  • Participate in PLO meetings and contribute to planning and review processes.

  • Present evidence in Court settings as required.

  • Engage directly with children and families involved in CiN, CP, PLO, and Court processes.

  • Stay up to date with current legislation, guidance, and safeguarding best practices.

  • Undertake additional duties as directed by your manager.


Person Specification

Essential:

  • Experienced social worker with expertise in child safeguarding.

  • Registered with Social Work England.

  • Strong assessment, planning, and analytical skills.

  • Experience chairing meetings and producing high-quality reports.

  • Confidence in providing Court evidence.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively.

Desirable:

  • Experience in a local authority safeguarding team.

  • Knowledge of the Children Act 1989/2004 and relevant legislation.

  • Familiarity with hybrid working methodologies.


Additional Information

  • Enhanced DBS check required.

  • Occasional county-wide travel may be necessary.

  • Fixed-term cover for maternity leave.
