The Opportunity

Are you a recent Psychology graduate with a passion for supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN)?

A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Birmingham is seeking a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2025.

This is a full-time, term-time only role – an excellent stepping stone for aspiring Educational Psychologists, SEN specialists, or future teachers. You’ll gain hands-on experience supporting pupils with a variety of needs, including autism, ADHD, and social, emotional, or behavioural challenges, while working within a nurturing school environment.

Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant – Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN
  • Assist in delivering tailored academic and behavioural interventions
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to implement strategies
  • Support pupils’ emotional wellbeing, confidence, and resilience
  • Adapt learning resources to suit individual needs
  • Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment

Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant – Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for dedicated and empathetic graduates who have:

  • A minimum 2:1 degree in Psychology or a related subject
  • A genuine interest in SEN, child development, and inclusive education
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • A patient, proactive, and compassionate approach
  • (Desirable) Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN – e.g. in schools, care, tutoring, or youth work
  • Clear ambition to progress into education, SEN, or psychology-related careers
