What you will do:

- Oversee and monitor care plans for looked after children to ensure they meet the child's needs and are fully implemented by local authorities.
- Chair looked after child review meetings, organising them in a child-friendly way and ensuring the child's views and wishes are heard, recorded, and considered in decision-making.
- Act as a consistent, trusted point of contact and advocate for the child, supporting them to express their views and understand any changes to their care plan.
- Ensure local authorities fulfil their statutory obligations and act as good corporate parents, providing children in care with the same level of support and services as any responsible parent would.
- Manage relationships between children, families, local authorities, and other agencies such as the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (Cafcass).
- Provide guidance and support to social workers, families, placement providers, and external partners involved in the child's care.
- Monitor the local authority's performance in relation to the child's case, including safeguarding and service delivery, and escalate concerns to senior managers or Cafcass when necessary.
- Collaborate with education and health services to ensure care plans include appropriate arrangements for children with special educational needs and disabilities, meeting the child's holistic needs.
- Maintain independence from the child's social worker and case management to provide unbiased oversight and challenge poor practice where needed.
- Follow formal escalation processes to raise concerns about inadequate care or planning and, if necessary, use legal avenues to ensure the child's welfare is prioritised.
