Russell Group Graduate Teaching Assistant – Candidate Specification

We’re on the lookout for a high-achieving Russell Group Graduate Teaching Assistant who meets the following criteria:

  • A 2:1 or above from a Russell Group university in any subject (STEM, Humanities, English, or MFL).
  • A genuine interest in education and a desire to support young people academically and personally.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Confidence in leading small groups or supporting classroom discussions.
  • Some experience working with young people (mentoring, tutoring, coaching, youth work)—desirable but not essential.
  • As a Russell Group Graduate Teaching Assistant, you must have a strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.

Russell Group Graduate Teaching Assistant – Role Responsibilities

As a Russell Group Graduate Teaching Assistant, you’ll be an integral part of the classroom, working closely with teachers and students each day. Your role will include:

  • Supporting teachers with lesson delivery and ensuring students remain focused and engaged.
  • Providing one-to-one and small group interventions, either to challenge high achievers or assist those who need extra guidance.
  • Helping create engaging, inclusive, and accessible classroom environments.
  • Assisting with practicals and activities, ensuring safety protocols are followed and learning runs smoothly.
  • Supporting with assessment tasks, feedback, and classroom organisation.
  • Building strong, positive relationships with students and acting as a reliable and encouraging presence in their school lives.
