Purpose of the Job:
To provide a comprehensive, effective, integrated, systemically-informed social work service within Southwark's practice framework, managing complex cases. Deliver excellent social work practice, assess complex needs, and work purposefully with families, support networks, and professionals. Your role is to manage risk, safeguard children, and promote positive outcomes through a relationship-based approach while adhering to statutory guidelines. Collaborate with your team, and support the development of best practice, coaching, and mentoring students, newly qualified social workers, and less experienced practitioners.
What you will do:
- Provide systemically-informed social work within complex situations, aiming for positive outcomes for each child.
- Build honest and respectful relationships with children and families to assist in safeguarding and conflict resolution.
- Deliver social work practice informed by statutory guidance and research.
- Provide professional guidance and developmental opportunities for less experienced colleagues.
- Present complex information clearly in professional settings and maintain organised case records.
- Observe and communicate with children to understand their development and interaction with their environment.
- Address the impact of adult issues such as mental ill health and domestic abuse, engaging other professionals as necessary.
- Lead investigations of significant harm and ensure the development of child protection frameworks.
- Manage a comprehensive caseload and devise child-centred plans.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated support for families.
- Use legal and statutory guidance to protect children and prepare evidence for legal proceedings.
- Operate independently while recognising when to seek advice and supervision to enhance decision-making.
- Contribute to the development of organisational practices and participate in multi-agency processes.
