Principal Policy Planner in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire

About the role:
The team is currently working on a huge range of projects, including developing the first joint Local Plan in an area with the fastest growing city economy in the country, incorporating major regeneration schemes and providing a number of strategic scale new low carbon districts in Greater Cambridge.
A draft version of the Greater Cambridge Local Plan is currently being prepared, to take to members in September and the consultation later in the year. We are looking for an experienced policy planner who can assist with the drafting and reviewing of development management policies and site allocations, accompanying topic papers and evidence.
The successful candidates will be able to provide innovative solutions to complex planning issues and support the delivery of high quality and sound policies.
Essential Criteria:
- Degree or recognised post graduate qualification in planning, design, conservation, landscape, regeneration or a related discipline and substantial relevant experience in the delivery and management of planning related services and or complex planning projects.
- Extensive understanding of the regulations and processes of planning policy
- Substantial relevant experience in the development of planning policy or securing strategic planning and infrastructure outcomes.
- Good numerical and IT skills, including experience in the Microsoft packages.
- Capable to proactively engage local communities and other key stakeholders in all aspects of the development and delivery of service.
- Ability to demonstrate understanding of and to comply with the Councils Equal Opportunities, GDPR and Customer Care Policies.
- Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills.
- Proven ability to deliver high quality services that are cost effective and provide excellent customer care.
- Demonstrates an ability to organise own work to maximise efficiency and productivity and to meet required performance targets.
- Flexible approach to work hours, location, and getting the job done.
- Acts with tact and diplomacy in all aspect of work.
- Shows initiative and is a proactive self-starter.
- Ability to think critically and problem solve.
