SEN Higher Level Teaching Assistant – The Role

  • Work with students aged 11–19 who have a wide range of complex SEN needs
  • Deliver and support targeted interventions in speech and communication, emotional regulation, and life skills
  • Support students in both classroom-based and individual sessions, guided by therapy and teaching teams
  • Help students prepare for adulthood, with a focus on independence, social interaction, and self-regulation
  • Liaise with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to ensure high-quality care and academic support

SEN Higher Level Teaching Assistant – Person Specification

  • A 2:1 or above in Psychology, Speech & Language Sciences, Education, or a related field
  • Experience working with SEN, either in a school, care, youth work, or healthcare setting
  • Deep empathy, resilience, and commitment to supporting vulnerable learners
  • Excellent communication skills, especially non-verbal and adaptive communication styles
  • Willingness to engage with physical support (e.g. assisting with mobility or personal care where required)
  • A driving licence is desirable but not essential
