An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Practitioner to join the dedicated Edge of Care Team in Birmingham. This ongoing locum position offers flexible working hours, a competitive rate of £33.30 per hour, and the chance to make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable young people aged 16–17 at risk of or experiencing homelessness.

Role Overview

This role is ideal for experienced practitioners with a background in working therapeutically with adolescents and families. You will play a central role in preventing care entry, supporting vulnerable young people who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness, and promoting positive outcomes through early intervention and robust support planning.


Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with young people aged 16–17 who are at risk of or presenting as homeless.

  • Complete Section 17 assessments and develop effective Child in Need (CIN) plans.

  • Provide therapeutic support to families to reduce the need for care placements.

  • Develop and implement Pathway Plans to help young people transition successfully into adulthood.

  • Work collaboratively with the Edge of Care Team, Family Group Conference, and Family Connectors services.

  • Support individuals facing issues such as trauma, attachment difficulties, CCE, CSE, and mental health challenges.

  • Apply the Southwark Judgement in decision-making to ensure lawful and child-centred practice.

  • Liaise with local and universal services to ensure young people have access to a comprehensive support network.
