About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Children’s Social Worker to join our team. You will play a vital role in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people who are at risk or in need of support. Your work will involve assessing family situations, providing interventions, and working collaboratively with families, carers, and other professionals to ensure the best outcomes for children.
What you will do:
- Conduct thorough assessments of children’s needs and family circumstances to identify risks and develop appropriate care plans.
- Investigate concerns of neglect, abuse, or harm by undertaking home visits, conducting interviews, and liaising with relevant agencies.
- Provide direct support and counselling to children and families to improve their wellbeing and promote safe, stable environments.
- Take urgent action to protect children in immediate danger, including arranging emergency care placements when necessary.
- Work closely with foster carers, adoptive families, schools, healthcare professionals, and legal bodies to coordinate services and support.
- Facilitate family reunification where safe and appropriate, offering guidance and resources to parents and guardians.
- Prepare detailed reports and maintain accurate case records to support decision-making and legal processes.
- Advocate for children’s rights and needs within the community and statutory services.
- Respond promptly to safeguarding referrals and participate in multi-agency child protection meetings.
- Support foster and adoptive families through ongoing advice, training, and resources.
- Promote children’s educational and emotional development by liaising with schools and other relevant organisations.
Person Specification:
- Qualified Social Worker with registration to practise with Social Work England (or relevant regulatory body).
- Proven experience in children’s social work, safeguarding, and child protection.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust with children, families, and professionals.
- Ability to manage complex and sensitive cases with sound judgement and resilience.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, guidance, and best practice in children’s social care (e.g., Children Act 1989/2004, Working Together to Safeguard Children).
- Commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
