SC Clearance essentialOur Client has a requirement for an Authorised Person (Electrical), who will be required to work on a contract basis in Reading.Role Purpose:The Authorised Person (Electrical) is responsible for managing and coordinating electrical safety in line with approved project procedures.The role provides governance and assurance of electrical safety systems across site activities, ensuring compliance with Nuclear Licence Conditions, QMS requirements, and project delivery processes.You will also coordinate Electrical Authorised Persons, oversee safe systems of work, and ensure safe execution of isolations, energisations, and live testing activities across the project lifecycle.Job Role Responsibilities: Support safe execution of works in line with the Project Completion ScheduleCoordinate and manage Electrical safety across Engineering, Construction, Quality, Commissioning, and Client teamsLiaise with contractors, vendors, and stakeholders on all electrical safety mattersEnsure all contractor documentation, test sheets, and records comply with project proceduresAudit Contractor APs and undertake site inspections to ensure complianceMaintain AP registers, safety documentation, and permit-related schedulesManage and coordinate: Electrical isolations and energisationsCross-boundary switching activitiesLive testing and energisation processes Support the M&E Permit Office in controlling live site electrical activitiesCoordinate with utilities teams for HV shutdowns and external energisationsEnsure smooth transition from construction through commissioning and start-up phasesReview and approve: Safe Systems of Work (SSoW)Energisation and isolation plansInitial Energisation RequestsTest documentation and commissioning records Train, assess, appoint, and audit Authorised Persons (Electrical)Maintain AP(E) register and ensure compliance with appointment requirementsDeliver electrical safety training to project teamsEnsure compliance with HSAWA, EAWR, CDM regulations, and project safety procedures Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:Essential: Time-served Electrical Technician or Electrical Engineer with strong site experience17th / 18th Edition IET Wiring RegulationsElectrical testing qualifications (2391 or 2394 & 2395)AP(E) training and experience as an Authorised Person (Electrical)SMSTS or equivalent CDM qualificationFull First Aid qualification (including resuscitation)Strong experience in construction and commissioning environmentsExperience working within M&E Permit Office systemsStrong understanding of electrical safety systems and proceduresExcellent communication and stakeholder management skillsAbility to chair meetings and resolve technical/safety issuesStrong knowledge of HSAWA, EAWR, CDM, risk assessments, and Safe Systems of WorkExperience managing contractors and multidisciplinary teams Desirable: Incorporated or Chartered Engineer statusMembership of a relevant professional engineering institutionExperience working in nuclear/licensed site environmentsExperience with safety-critical plant and systemsStrong background in specification, commissioning, maintenance, or operational plant environments Other: Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain SC Clearance (minimum)DV Clearance desirable Company informationAt First Recruitment Group we understand just how important it is to secure the right people. Outside IR35Our client has a requirement for a Senior Authorised Person (SAP) – Electrical, who will be required to work on a contract basis in Trawysfynydd.Role Purpose:Act as the duty holder for electrical safety, ensuring the safe operation, isolation, and control of HV and LV electrical systems in accordance with site electrical safety rules.Provide technical authority, leadership, and assurance for all electrical activities, acting as a key interface between operations, engineering, contractors, and the permit office.Support the permit office to ensure permits are correctly specified, coordinated, and controlled, with a strong focus on electrical interfaces and energy isolation.Maintain robust safe systems of work, preventing energisation incidents while enabling works to be delivered safely and efficiently.Job Role Responsibilities: Act as the Senior Authorised Person (Electrical) in accordance with site safety rules, including authorisation, isolation, earthing, and re-energisation of electrical systems.Plan, implement, and control electrical isolations and switching programmes, coordinating with operations, construction, and the permit office.Provide technical review and approval of electrical aspects of permits to work, RAMS, switching schedules, and isolation plans.Support the permit office with the issue, suspension, and closure of permits, ensuring effective management of interfaces between electrical and other activities.Monitor and assure contractor compliance with electrical safety standards, site rules, and permit conditions through inspections, audits, and oversight.Investigate electrical incidents, near misses, and non-conformances, contributing to lessons learned and continuous improvement. Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:Essential: Current or previously held SAP status for HV and/or LV systems.Strong knowledge of electrical safety rules, isolation procedures, lock-off/tag-out, earthing, and energisation controls.Ability to interpret electrical drawings, single line diagrams (SLDs), and switching schedules.Demonstrable commitment to safety leadership, procedural compliance, and risk management.Formal electrical qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND or equivalent). Desirable: Experience operating within a permit-to-work system.Experience in nuclear, defence, or other high hazard / regulated environments.Experience working with a permit office or control of work team.Knowledge of temporary electrical systems associated with construction or demolition.IOSH or NEBOSH Managing Safely.CSCS Supervisor Gold Card.Training in Control & Supervision of Safe Systems of Work (SSoW).
