On behalf of our client — an international interior design company specialising in hospitality projects — we are seeking a Technical Designer to support the technical development of their international interior design and hospitality portfolio.
This role is suited for a technically skilled designer with at least 3 years of professional experience and a strong background in FF&E, furniture design, and technical detailing. You will work closely with the client's interior designers and project teams to translate creative concepts into accurate, technically resolved, and production-ready designs.
The position requires a strong understanding of furniture construction, materials, finishes, and manufacturing processes, combined with excellent technical drawing skills and attention to detail. You will play an important role in ensuring that the design intent is maintained from concept development through production and implementation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Design & Documentation
- Develop detailed technical drawings, specifications, and production documentation for custom furniture and FF&E
- Translate design concepts, sketches, and presentations into accurate technical drawings
- Prepare detailed dimensions, construction details, material specifications, and finish schedules
- Produce and maintain clear and organized technical documentation throughout the design process
FF&E & Custom Furniture Development
- Support the technical development of custom furniture, joinery, fixtures, and other bespoke interior elements
- Develop technically feasible solutions while maintaining the original design intent
- Specify and document materials, finishes, hardware, and construction methods
- Review prototypes, samples, and shop drawings where required
Design & Supplier Coordination
- Work closely with interior designers to develop concepts into technically resolved solutions
- Coordinate technical details with suppliers, manufacturers, and other project partners
- Review supplier and manufacturer drawings to ensure compliance with approved designs and specifications
- Identify technical challenges and propose practical solutions during design development and production
Technical & Quality Control
- Review drawings and specifications for accuracy, consistency, and feasibility
- Identify discrepancies between design intent and technical or manufacturing requirements
- Support quality control throughout the development and production process
- Contribute to maintaining the company's technical standards across projects
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial design, Technical Design, Product Design, Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or a related field
- Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience
- Previous professional experience with FF&E and/or custom furniture design is required
- Previous experience working on hospitality projects, particularly hotels, restaurants, or similar environments, is strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of furniture construction, materials, finishes, joinery, and manufacturing processes
- Excellent technical drawing and detailing skills
- Proficiency in relevant CAD and technical design software
- Ability to read, develop, and review technical drawings and specifications
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Ability to balance design intent with technical feasibility
- Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with an international design team
- Comfortable working in a hybrid environment based in Mriehel, Malta
