Team Manager – Front Door Team

About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Team Manager within the Front Door Team at Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council. The Front Door Team is the crucial first point of contact for all referrals related to children and families, making swift decisions on safeguarding concerns. This role offers the opportunity to lead, motivate, and mentor a team of social workers in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and Motivate: Supervise a team of social workers and support staff within the Front Door/Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) service.

Manage Referrals: Oversee the screening, triage, and allocation of safeguarding referrals, ensuring they are processed in line with statutory guidelines and local protocols.

Ensure Robust Decision-Making: Guarantee threshold decision-making aligns with statutory guidance, including the Children Acts of 1989 and 2004.

Monitor Performance: Track caseloads, workflows, and ensure assessments and interventions are timely and effective.

Child Protection: Provide oversight for child protection enquiries and strategy discussions.

Collaborate Across Agencies: Work closely with partners such as police, health, education, and early help services in a multi-agency safeguarding environment.

Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the development of services based on performance data, ensuring continuous improvement.

Staff Wellbeing and Development: Foster a culture of continuous learning, support staff wellbeing, and encourage professional development.
Requirements

Experience: Significant experience in children’s social work, ideally with some management experience.

Knowledge: Strong knowledge of safeguarding policies, procedures, and legislation, including Children Acts 1989 and 2004.

Leadership: Proven ability to lead and manage teams effectively, providing mentorship and fostering team development.

Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external agencies.
