What You Will Do

  • Central Point of Contact: Act as the main contact for SGO (Special Guardianship Orders) and Connected Persons assessments, following positive viability assessments.

  • Joint Viability Assessments: Work alongside the allocated child’s social worker to conduct thorough viability assessments.

  • Case Review & Needs Assessment: Review case records, assess children's needs, and ensure children receive the appropriate support.

  • Assessment Visits: Carry out assessment visits and observe contact with applicants and children.

  • Court Reports & Support Plans: Prepare court reports and SGO support plans that advocate for the best interests of children.

  • Professional Meetings & Court: Attend professional meetings and court proceedings as necessary.

  • Workshops & Forums: Organise and deliver preparation workshops for prospective Special Guardians, as well as SGO forums and fun days for families.

  • Fostering Development: Generate leads for potential new foster carers and home-from-home carers, contributing to the expansion of the team.

  • Collaborative Work: Work closely with the childcare team, IROs (Independent Reviewing Officers), and fostering teams to ensure optimal outcomes for children.

Key Requirements

  • Registration: Must be registered with Social Work England.

  • Qualification & Experience: Relevant qualification in Social Work with post-qualification experience in fostering or a similar area.

  • Special Guardianship Knowledge: Strong understanding of the SGO (Special Guardianship Order) process and procedures.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build strong, professional relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
