Social Worker – Best Interest Assessor (BIA) within Adult Social Care in Devon, earning £250 per completed assessment. Working within Devon County Council's Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) Service, you will play a crucial role in reducing assessment waiting times and ensuring individuals' rights and freedoms are protected in line with legislation and best practice.

What you will do:

  • Undertake Best Interests Assessments under the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards framework.

  • Complete comprehensive assessments and produce high-quality reports that are robust, evidence-based, and capable of withstanding legal scrutiny.

  • Apply detailed knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards legislation in practice.

  • Analyse, evaluate, and interpret complex information to support informed decision-making.

  • Liaise effectively with service users, families, advocates, care providers, and professionals to gather and assess relevant information.

  • Provide clear recommendations based on assessment findings and statutory requirements.

  • Ensure assessments are completed within agreed timescales and in accordance with professional standards.

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive records and documentation.

  • Work independently within a predominantly remote working environment while maintaining effective communication with the wider DoLS team.

  • Contribute to the reduction of outstanding DoLS assessments and support positive outcomes for vulnerable adults.

Person Specification:

  • Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration.

  • Qualified and accredited Best Interests Assessor (BIA).

  • Recent BIA practice experience, having undertaken assessments within the last two months.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, and relevant case law.

  • Ability to produce detailed, high-quality reports and assessments.

  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and communication skills.

  • Commitment to completing a minimum of twelve assessments per month over a minimum six-month period.

  • Ability to work independently and effectively within a remote working model.
