Role overview
North East Lincolnshire Council is seeking an experienced Social Worker to join the Assessment and Safeguarding Team. This frontline role is crucial in ensuring children and families receive timely assessments, robust safeguarding interventions, and effective support where risk is identified.
You will handle referrals, carry out statutory assessments, and manage cases where there are concerns relating to child protection and child in need, ensuring all actions are aligned with statutory guidance and best practice.
What you will do
- Undertake statutory assessments, including Child & Family Assessments and Section 47 enquiries.
- Respond to referrals and make informed decisions regarding safeguarding thresholds.
- Develop, implement, and review Child Protection and Children in Need (CIN) plans.
- Work directly with children and families to reduce risk and support positive change.
- Attend and contribute to strategy meetings, child protection conferences, and core group meetings.
- Prepare high‑quality reports for court proceedings and statutory forums.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant case records in line with legislation and local procedures.
- Ensure the child’s voice, wishes, and feelings are central to all assessments and interventions.
Requirements
Essential:
- Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
- Proven experience within Assessment and Safeguarding or similar frontline children’s teams.
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, including the Children Act 1989.
- Ability to manage complex and high‑risk caseloads effectively.
- Excellent assessment, communication, and report‑writing skills.
Desirable:
- Experience working within a local authority children’s services setting.
- Familiarity with local authority case management systems.
- Court experience.
