Senior Sous Chef

London | £45,000–£50,000 + package

We’re looking for a strong Senior Sous Chef to join the team at a busy, independent West African restaurant in Borough Market.

This is a quality-led restaurant with a strong identity, serving bold West African-inspired food with influences from across the Atlantic. The kitchen is busy, well staffed and focused on delivering consistently high standards across every service.

We’re open to Senior Sous Chefs, Junior Sous Chefs ready for the next step, or experienced Head Chefs who are looking for a more collaborative environment.

The Role

This is a hands-on senior kitchen role for someone who enjoys leading from the front.

You’ll work closely with the senior team, helping run the kitchen across lunch and dinner service while developing the team and maintaining the standards of the food.

The kitchen team is around 11 chefs, with the restaurant serving around 100 covers on a typical day and over 200 covers across busy weekends.

You’ll be responsible for:

• Leading the kitchen team alongside the senior management
• Running busy lunch and dinner services
• Taking responsibility for the kitchen when senior management are away
• Leading the pass and making decisions during service
• Supporting and developing the wider chef team
• Maintaining high standards of food quality, consistency and presentation
• Ensuring health and safety and kitchen standards are maintained
• Managing prep, service and close-down
• Helping develop and refine dishes and menus
• Training and coaching junior members of the team
• Keeping the kitchen organised and well prepared
• Creating a positive and respectful kitchen culture
• Working closely with the Head Chef and wider management team

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is still very much a chef and enjoys being hands-on.

You’ll ideally have:

• Senior Sous Chef, Junior Sous Chef or Head Chef experience
• Strong experience in a busy, quality-led restaurant
• Experience leading a team during high-volume services
• The confidence to run a kitchen and lead a service
• Excellent food and kitchen standards
• Good knowledge of health and safety
• Strong organisation and communication skills
• A calm approach under pressure
• A genuine interest in developing other chefs
• A positive attitude and the ability to work well with others

The Package

£45,000–£50,000 depending on experience, with additional package on top.

The working pattern is based around four days on and three days off or can be discussed to suit needs

The business is well staffed and The focus is on having the right people in the kitchen and creating a sustainable working environment.

The Opportunity

This is a great opportunity for a Senior Sous Chef who wants more responsibility without immediately taking on the pressure of being the sole Head Chef.

Equally, if you are already a Head Chef and want to work in a collaborative environment with a strong team around you, the business is open to discussing a Co-Head Chef position.
