Purpose of the Role:
To deliver high-quality statutory social work services to children and families where there are safeguarding concerns. You will ensure children are protected from harm, supported through timely interventions, and enabled to achieve positive, long-term outcomes in line with legislation and statutory guidance.
What You Will Do:

Undertake Section 47 child protection enquiries and statutory assessments.

Manage cases for children subject to Child Protection Plans and Children in Need Plans.

Identify, assess, and manage risks of significant harm, ensuring proportionate and timely interventions.

Participate in strategy meetings, child protection conferences, and core groups.

Complete comprehensive child and family assessments and develop outcome-focused plans.

Carry out direct work with children to capture and reflect their wishes and feelings.

Prepare and present high-quality court reports, statements, and care plans.

Work collaboratively with police, health, education, early help, and voluntary sector partners.

Maintain accurate and timely case records in line with Portsmouth City Council standards.

Engage fully in supervision, reflective practice, and continuous professional development.
Person Specification:

Degree or equivalent professional qualification in Social Work.

Registration with Social Work England.

Enhanced DBS clearance.

Recent experience within statutory children’s social care, specifically child protection.

Proven ability to manage complex safeguarding and court-related cases.

Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Children Act and statutory safeguarding guidance.
