As the Principal Social Worker, you’ll deliver expert guidance, champion strengths-based practice, and ensure that interventions remain child-centred, evidence-informed, and fully aligned with the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014.

What You Will Do

  • Lead on professional standards within the Care and Support Team, modelling and promoting best practice.

  • Provide expert mentorship, guidance, and reflective supervision to Social Workers, Senior Practitioners, and Newly Qualified Social Workers.

  • Oversee the quality of assessments, plans, direct work, and case decision-making across the service.

  • Offer specialist consultation on complex safeguarding matters, high-risk decision-making, and escalated concerns.

  • Support induction, training, and ongoing development of new and existing staff, identifying team-wide practice needs.

  • Work closely with the Team Manager on service planning, quality assurance, and performance monitoring.

  • Build effective partnerships across agencies—including police, health, and education—to strengthen collaborative safeguarding practice.

  • Lead and contribute to the design and implementation of new policies, tools, and procedures to continuously improve service delivery.
