This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Social Worker to join Kirklees Council’s Children’s Assessment Team. You will play a key role in frontline safeguarding, supporting timely decision‑making, high‑quality assessments, and positive outcomes for children and families.

What you will do

  • Complete comprehensive statutory assessments for children and families in line with legislation and local procedures.
  • Manage a complex caseload including Child in Need (CIN) and Child Protection (CP) cases.
  • Lead and contribute to Section 47 enquiries, strategy discussions, and safeguarding decision‑making.
  • Prepare high‑quality, evidence‑based reports and assessments within statutory timescales.
  • Work collaboratively with multi‑agency partners including health, education, and police.
  • Attend and contribute to Initial Child Protection Conferences (ICPCs) and core group meetings.
  • Provide mentoring and informal guidance to newly qualified and less experienced social workers.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant case records in line with statutory and Ofsted expectations.
  • Support continuous service improvement and uphold high professional standards across the team.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Qualified Social Worker with a recognised qualification (e.g. DipSW, CQSW, BA/MA Social Work).
  • Registered with Social Work England.
  • Minimum 3+ years post‑qualified experience in Children’s Social Care.
  • Significant experience within Assessment, Duty, and Safeguarding teams.
  • Proven ability to manage complex cases including Section 17 and Section 47 work.
  • Strong multi‑agency working experience and safeguarding knowledge.
  • Excellent analytical and report‑writing skills.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience as a Senior Social Worker or Advanced Practitioner.
  • Experience mentoring or supervising staff.
  • Familiarity with local authority systems such as Liquidlogic.
  • Court work experience.
