Main purpose of job:
- Lead local authority-delivered SEND services, ensuring positive outcomes for children and high standards of service delivery.
- Collaborate with a wide range of partners including education, health, social care, parents, and young people to bring about transformative change.
- Provide robust and supportive line management; effectively oversee Area teams to ensure statutory duties are met.
- Establish excellent working relationships with all schools for timely support and advice, and develop key networks both internally and externally.
- Manage the Local Authority’s statutory functions relating to SEND, leading in assessment and provision processes.
- Ensure effective and transparent decision-making while maintaining high-quality standards and meeting service performance targets.
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement, personal development, and leadership excellence.
- Oversee strategy, business planning, and financial efficiency, contributing to the division's broader strategic delivery.
- Coordinate partnership arrangements with schools while prioritising the safeguarding and welfare of children and young people.
Person specification - Qualifications:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent.
- Qualified Education professional or extensive experience working in SEND.
- Evidence of continuous professional development.
Knowledge, skills, and experience:
- Proven experience in managing statutory processes within a SEND environment.
- In-depth understanding of the SEND code of practice and its implementation.
- Background in coordinating multi-agency teams and working with elected members.
- Strong knowledge of local authority inspection regimes and data management principles.
