Nottingham City Council is seeking a committed Family Support Worker to join its Children’s Services team. This role focuses on early intervention and targeted family support, working with children, young people, and families to improve outcomes and reduce the need for statutory intervention.
What you will do
- Provide direct support to children, young people, and families in line with Early Help and Child in Need frameworks.
- Complete assessments of family needs, risks, and strengths to inform targeted support plans.
- Design and deliver intervention programmes aimed at improving family functioning and outcomes.
- Work closely with social workers, schools, health professionals, and partner agencies.
- Support parents to strengthen routines, boundaries, and safeguarding awareness.
- Undertake home and community visits to engage families effectively.
- Maintain accurate and timely case records to support continuity and clarity.
- Contribute to multi‑agency meetings, reviews, and safeguarding processes.
- Promote the welfare and safety of children as a central priority in all work.
Requirements
Essential:
- Experience (paid or placement‑based) working with children, young people, or families.
- Sound understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles.
- Ability to build effective, trusting relationships with vulnerable families.
- Strong communication, assessment, and report‑writing skills.
- Willingness to undertake home and community‑based visits.
Desirable:
- Social Work qualification (BA/BSc Social Work) – NQSWs are encouraged to apply.
- Registration with Social Work England, or working towards registration.
- Experience within Early Help, Child in Need, or family intervention services.
- Working knowledge of relevant legislation such as the Children Act 1989/2004.
