You'll Need:
- An English degree (2:1 or higher) in English Language, English Literature, or a related discipline – your subject knowledge is essential
- Passion for education – you genuinely want to help young people succeed
- Enthusiasm and resilience – teaching is rewarding but can be challenging
- Commitment to safeguarding – all candidates will undergo enhanced DBS checks
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Supporting Student Success
- Deliver targeted 1:1 and small-group interventions for students who need extra support
- Help GCSE and A-Level students master challenging texts, essay techniques, and language analysis
- Work with learners across all abilities—from those building foundational literacy skills to high-achievers pursuing top grades
- Support reading, writing, and spoken language development across the curriculum
Building Your Teaching Skills
- Assist classroom teachers in delivering engaging English lessons across language and literature
- Develop strategies for making complex texts and concepts accessible to all learners
- Learn classroom management techniques in a supportive environment
- Observe excellent teaching practice firsthand
- Gain experience with creative writing workshops and structured debate activities
Making a Real Difference
- See students' confidence grow as their reading and writing skills flourish
- Help young people develop critical thinking and communication skills they'll use for life
- Contribute to a department that achieves strong results year after year
- Inspire the next generation of writers, communicators, and critical thinkers
What We're Looking For
It Would Be Great If You Have:
- Any tutoring, mentoring, or volunteering experience with young people
- Familiarity with the UK secondary English curriculum and set texts
- Clear ambitions to pursue qualified teacher status
- Experience leading reading groups, creative writing projects, or drama activities
