Civil Estimator in Falmer, South East

Our Client has a requirement for a Civil Estimator, who will be required to work on a contract basis in Falmer (Brighton).
Role Purpose:
The Civil Estimator will support and prepare pricing for tenders, bids, and other business opportunities from receipt of documents through to tender review and final submission.
This position is ideal for either an experienced Civils Estimator or a Civil Engineer with strong numerical and analytical skills looking to develop their estimating experience.
Job Role Responsibilities:
- Work on the civil elements of tenders, generating budget estimates during optioneering or setting target prices for preferred design options.
- Manage multiple projects concurrently within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Review civil design specifications and drawings to ensure compliant and competitive tenders.
- Produce detailed activity schedules or BOQs for all civil works in line with client cost capture systems.
- Factor in safety, health, and environmental considerations, including mitigation costs.
- Attend site visits across the South East as required.
- Collaborate with M&E Estimators on temporary treatment processes to ensure operational compliance.
- Obtain and technically/commercially assess quotations for subcontractors, materials, plant, and labour.
- Estimate indirect project costs such as site establishment, welfare, and staffing.
- Identify and record risks and opportunities during estimate preparation.
- Support the Estimating Manager during internal governance and client submission.
- Attend settlement and post-tender commercial meetings with the client.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance estimating efficiency.
Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:
Essential:
- Strong understanding of civil construction (e.g. groundworks, reinforced concrete, retaining structures, tanks/chambers, RC roads, pipework, ductwork, and temporary works).
- Qualified in a Civil Engineering discipline.
- Ability to manage and prioritise multiple concurrent tenders to tight deadlines.
- High level of competence with Microsoft Excel.
Desirable:
- Experience in the water or utilities sector (training can be provided).
- Previous experience as an Estimator for a major contractor.
- Experience within a multi-discipline engineering environment.
- Understanding of water/sewage treatment processes and pumping systems.
- Valid CSCS card and driving licence.
- Experience producing bottom-up estimates (training can be provided).
