About the Role

We are seeking a proactive and enthusiastic Band 6 Speech & Language Therapist to join the Acute Dysphagia Team in Dumfries & Galloway. This ongoing opportunity offers a competitive hourly rate and flexible working options to suit your lifestyle.

You will play a key role in supporting adult patients, particularly those recovering from stroke, delivering specialist dysphagia assessment and intervention within acute settings. Working as part of a supportive multi-disciplinary team, you will contribute to high-quality, patient-centred care across inpatient and outpatient services.


Key Responsibilities

Clinical Assessment & Intervention

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of communication and swallowing disorders

  • Provide specialist dysphagia management for adult and stroke patients

  • Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans

  • Monitor, evaluate and adapt interventions to achieve optimal patient outcomes

Caseload Management

  • Independently manage and prioritise a varied acute caseload

  • Deliver services across inpatient and outpatient settings

  • Contribute to voice clinics where appropriate (desirable experience)

Multi-Disciplinary Collaboration

  • Liaise closely with medical staff, nurses, dietitians and other AHP colleagues

  • Participate in ward rounds and MDT meetings

  • Provide education and training to carers and healthcare staff as required

Professional Standards & Development

  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation

  • Engage in ongoing CPD and reflective practice

  • Ensure practice aligns with professional and organisational standards


Requirements

  • HCPC registration as a Speech & Language Therapist

  • Experience working with adults in an acute setting

  • Competency in dysphagia assessment and management

  • Experience supporting adult stroke patients

  • Strong organisational and communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and within a multi-disciplinary team
