The Role - Graduate Teaching Assistant
As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting teaching and learning within your chosen department. Your responsibilities will include:
Academic Support:
- Providing targeted support to students both in-class and through small group interventions
- Assisting with lesson preparation and potentially leading parts of lessons as you develop
- Supporting students with exam preparation, particularly for GCSE and A-Level qualifications
- Helping to develop students' subject-specific skills, critical thinking, and study techniques
Classroom Management:
- Creating positive and engaging learning environments
- Supporting behaviour management strategies
- Encouraging student participation and building confidence
Who We're Looking For
We welcome applications from graduates seeking their first step into education who demonstrate:
Academic Excellence:
- 2:1 degree or above in a relevant subject area
- Strong subject knowledge appropriate to secondary school level
- Ability to explain complex concepts clearly and accessibly
Experience (Desirable but not Essential):
- Previous work with young people through tutoring, mentoring, or volunteering
- Understanding of the UK education system
- Additional skills such as sports coaching, music, or drama
Subject-Specific Requirements
Mathematics: Engineering, Physics, Economics, or related numerical disciplines welcomed
Science: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or related scientific disciplines
English: English Literature, English Language, Creative Writing, or related humanities subjects
Psychology: Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, or related social sciences
Languages: Native or near-native proficiency in French, Spanish, or German
