The Role
As a Pastoral Teaching Assistant, you’ll focus on the emotional, social, and behavioural development of students aged 5–19 with a range of needs including autism (ASC), SEMH, and speech, language and communication difficulties. You will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and therapists to provide tailored support that ensures pupils feel confident, included, and able to thrive.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting students with their emotional wellbeing, behaviour, and engagement.
- Building trusted relationships to create a safe and nurturing environment.
- Assisting in the delivery of pastoral and wellbeing programmes.
- Working 1:1 and in small groups to promote self-esteem and positive behaviour.
- Collaborating with teaching staff, therapists, and external agencies to meet students’ holistic needs.
- Monitoring progress and supporting with EHCP and pastoral plans.
Person Specification
- A graduate or experienced candidate with an interest in pastoral care, SEN, or mental health.
- Understanding of SEMH, autism, or behavioural needs is highly desirable.
- Patient, empathetic, and resilient with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond positively to challenges.
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people to reach their full potential.
