B&S Group Ltd is proud to be representing their client in their search for an LV Switchgear Test & Installation Engineer to work at their facility in Chester with nationwide travel as required.
For the successful LV Switchgear Test & Installation Engineer, our client is offering:
- £31,500 per annum basic salary
- OTE approx. £45,000 per annum (depending on site work)
- Days : 8am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday
- Overtime opportunities & enhanced site rates
- Workshop rates: M to F - £20.15 per hour | Sat & Sun - £23.25 per hour
- Travel rate M to F (outside factory hours): £20.15 per hour
- Travel rate Sat & Sun: £23.25 per hour
- On-site rate (during factory hours): £20.15 per hour
- On-site rate (outside factory hours): £23.25 per hour

The role - LV Switchgear Test & Installation Engineer:
- Perform comprehensive electrical testing on LV switchboards, including insulation resistance (IR) testing, flash testing, functional testing, and verification of wiring against schematics.
- Carry out continuity testing of cabling installed in modular substations.
- Conduct live operations testing of auxiliary systems in modular substations (e.g., lighting, heating, control systems).
- Prepare detailed test reports and ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations.
- Attend client sites nationwide to install new LV switchboards and modular substations.
- Undertake modifications to existing equipment on site as required.
- Ensure compliance with site-specific requirements, including inductions, permits-to-work, and client procedures.
- Prepare and follow Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) for all site work, ensuring they are reviewed and approved prior to starting tasks.
- Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations, using appropriate PPE and safe working practices at all times.
- Liaise with clients and site representatives to coordinate work efficiently and professionally.
What our client is looking for in an LV Switchgear Test & Installation Engineer:
- Valid ECS card ESSENTIAL
- Full UK driving licence ESSENTIAL
- Proven experience testing, installing, and modifying LV switchgear/switchboards ESSENTIAL
- Willingness to travel nationwide (site work is not full-time; majority of work will be workshop-based) ESSENTIAL
- Recognised qualification in Electrical Installations or Electrical Engineering (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent)
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams accurately
- Strong understanding of IR testing, flash testing, continuity testing, and live operations testing
- Experience with functional testing of control circuits
- Experience preparing and working to RAMS
- Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to electrical site work
- Ability to work safely and effectively in live electrical environments
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Experience of liaising with clients and contractors on site-based projects
