Role Purpose

Provide independent, impartial leadership to multi-agency safeguarding boards and partnerships, ensuring strong governance, accountability, and collaboration to safeguard children and vulnerable adults across Barnet.


Key Responsibilities

  • Chair meetings of the Safeguarding Children’s Partnership or Safeguarding Adults Board, ensuring inclusive, constructive, and effective discussions.

  • Promote joined-up working between local authorities, health services, police, voluntary organisations, and other stakeholders.

  • Ensure statutory duties are delivered in line with the Children Act 2004, Care Act 2014, and other relevant legislation.

  • Oversee the creation, review, and implementation of safeguarding policies and multi-agency action plans.

  • Encourage constructive challenge and scrutiny to improve safeguarding outcomes.

  • Maintain impartiality and transparency in all decision-making.

  • Represent the Board at regional and national meetings, influencing wider safeguarding strategies.

  • Support the publication of annual reports, serious case reviews, and key safeguarding documents.

  • Embed learning from audits, reviews, and quality assurance into local practice.


Person Specification

  • Extensive senior leadership experience in safeguarding, social care, health, or related fields.

  • Expert knowledge of safeguarding legislation, frameworks, and best practice.

  • Proven track record of chairing multi-agency meetings with authority and impartiality.

  • Excellent facilitation, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.

  • Ability to work independently with professionalism and integrity.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
