Leicester City Council's Adult Social Care team is on the hunt for a dynamic Best Interest Assessor to join the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) Team for an exciting 3-6 month locum opportunity. This full-time role (37 hours per week, Monday to Friday) offers a fantastic chance to impact the local community while earning a competitive rate of £36 per hour. You will be instrumental in undertaking Mental Capacity and best interest assessments within the framework of the Mental Capacity Act 2005. If you're a qualified social worker with a BIA qualification for DoLS and a couple of years under your belt, this could be the opportunity for you.

What you will do:

  • Conduct high-quality, thorough assessments related to the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards legislation.
  • Coordinate the DoLS assessment process, ensuring everything meets statutory timescales.
  • Provide expert advice and support on best practice; ensuring all procedures comply with local and national policy.
  • Engage in the BIA Duty rota handling telephone calls and email enquiries one day each week.
  • Support continuous community and partner agency engagement through training opportunities and providing support for Best Interest Assessor candidates.
  • Work closely within a multi-agency framework to provide a unified approach to DoLS.
  • Drive to client homes within Leicester and Leicestershire for assessment purposes.


What you'll need:
A qualified Best Interest Assessor disciplined in Social Work, Nursing or Occupational Therapy, with significant experience in adult social care settings. You must have in-depth knowledge of pertinent legislation and be registered with the appropriate professional body. Your track record of handling complex needs with creative problem-solving, excellent communication, and strong organizational skills will make you an ideal candidate.
