We are seeking a dedicated Senior Practitioner to join the Children & Families Team in Birmingham. This is a fantastic opportunity for social work professionals with 4+ years of post-qualification experience who are ready to step into a leadership and mentoring role, working on some of the most complex and high-risk cases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Case Management: Lead and manage complex and high-risk child protection and care proceedings cases.

  • Practice Leadership: Serve as a mentor and role model, supporting the development of less experienced social workers and newly qualified staff.

  • Safeguarding Coordination: Take a lead in strategy meetings, Section 47 enquiries, and child protection planning.

  • Legal Proceedings: Prepare detailed reports for court and provide expert witness evidence where required.

  • Multi-Agency Working: Collaborate with health, education, and law enforcement partners to ensure integrated and comprehensive care plans.

  • Quality Assurance: Support audit activities and help implement improvements that raise practice standards.

  • Reflective Practice: Participate in supervision, learning forums, and team development to embed a culture of continuous improvement.


Requirements

  • Degree in Social Work or equivalent

  • Registration with Social Work England

  • Minimum of 4 years’ post-qualification experience, ideally with supervisory responsibilities

  • Strong background in child protection, court proceedings, and mentoring junior colleagues

  • Confident, child-centred approach with a passion for improving outcomes for vulnerable children
