Design Innovative Mechanical Handling Solutions in a Highly Regulated Engineering EnvironmentOur Client has a requirement for a Senior Mechanical Handling Engineer, who will be required to work on a contract basis, with monthly site visits to Plymouth.Role Purpose: Support the Design Manager in the successful delivery of project scope.Ensure engineering activities are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with project requirements.Take ownership of mechanical handling and defuel tooling engineering activities.Support quality, configuration management and engineering governance throughout the project lifecycle.Assist in identifying and mitigating engineering risks whilst maintaining compliance with all relevant standards and procedures. Job Role Responsibilities: Deliver mechanical handling and defuel tooling activities in line with agreed scope, quality, schedule and cost requirements.Take responsibility for the technical delivery of defuel tooling work packages.Update and maintain engineering documentation from detailed design through to as-built status.Ensure compliance with Quality Management Arrangements, Business Management Systems and Technical Manuals.Maintain accurate engineering records and documentation.Apply configuration management and quality control processes throughout project delivery.Support the management of engineering risks and hazards associated with project activities.Ensure Risk Assessments are effectively communicated to staff and contractors.Work collaboratively with project teams to achieve engineering objectives and programme milestones.Deliver engineering activities in accordance with established procedures, standards and project requirements. Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications: Degree (or equivalent qualification) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.Experience in the design of mechanical handling systems and lifting equipment.Previous experience working within a nuclear or other highly regulated environment is desirable.Experience producing and supporting engineering design justifications.Strong technical knowledge and practical experience in engineering design development.Sound understanding of engineering design principles and associated safety practices.Knowledge of engineering design, health & safety and quality management processes.Ability to manage and deliver work packages in accordance with established standards and procedures.Working knowledge of relevant engineering software and computer applications.Working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) status is preferred.Membership of a relevant professional engineering institution is desirable. Working on a significant infrastructure investment programme, you will lead the delivery of civil and structural design packages associated with critical dock readiness and nuclear infrastructure projects.Key Responsibilities Lead a small team of engineers and designers delivering civil and structural work packages.Manage technical design packages from concept through to handover.Ensure delivery to scope, quality, schedule and cost requirements.Act as the technical focal point for stakeholders and project teams.Review and assess seismic design documentation.Ensure compliance with quality, safety and engineering governance processes.Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise throughout the project lifecycle. Essential Experience Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering.Chartered Engineer (or demonstrably working at Chartered level).15+ years' experience in Civil and Structural Engineering.Experience delivering complex infrastructure, marine, rail, defence or heavy industrial projects.Proven experience leading and mentoring engineering teams.Strong background in structural design and substantiation of heavy civil engineering structures.Experience working within highly regulated environments.Understanding of engineering design, safety and quality management processes.
